Lent is upon us, in fact it starts tomorrow and I couldn’t be any more excited to introduce to you the 40 Day Body, Mind and Soul Challenge! This Lenten season, I have challenged myself to acknowledge God in what I believe are three of the most crucial aspects of one’s life: body, mind and soul. Not only will this challenge serve as an opportunity to draw closer to God on a daily basis but it will also be a way to kickstart the habit of being more aware of God’s presence throughout the day.
My hope is that you would join me in this 40 day challenge as we prepare our hearts for Easter. I pray that our personal relationships with Christ will be strengthened during this time as we are stretched in our capacity. I also pray that our love for Him will allow us to persevere as we commit to setting aside 2 hours each day to spend with Jesus.
So without further ado, here are the challenge guidelines.
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received form God?You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Our bodies are so precious that the Holy Spirit dwells within them. As such, I feel as though it’s important that we take care of them, ensuring that they are physical fit and well nourished. For this portion of the challenge, you can chose to spend 40 minutes exercising or 40 minutes cooking yourself a healthy meal.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2
Our minds are so important, because they have the ability to alter the way that we think. If we are to pollute our minds with negativity, our lives will begin to manifest fruitlessness. However, if we are to fill our minds with the living Word of God, our lives will in turn reap the benefits of our efforts and exude with joy. For this part of the challenge, we are going to spend 40 minutes reading and studying our Bible.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads be beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” – Psalm 23:1-3
Lastly, we have the soul. I feel like this is an area of our lives that we can oftentimes overlook but it’s extremely important. This critical aspect of the challenge is going to provide us with the fuel that we need to ultimately be successful. For this final section of the challenge we’re going to devote 40 minutes of our time to prayer. Whether that’s praying in the Spirit or any language that you feel most comfortable in. If you’re having difficulty praying for the entirety of the 40 mins, I would encourage you to spend the remainder of our time listening to a sermon podcast or worship music.
I am eager to start this challenge with you all tomorrow (March 1st) and would love to hear testimonies of how these next 40 days impact your relationship with God. Feel free to share your experiences with me on any of my social media platforms using the hashtag #40daybmschallenge!
PS. Challenge days are Monday – Saturday each week until Good Friday 🙂
